Conservation Northwest Wildlife Monitoring Program ~ Pasayten Wilderness Remote Camera Install |
||||
|
July 18, 2008 – Team leader Kim des Rochers, along with Robert and Kathy Chrestensen, set out on a 3-day, 24-mile (RT) backpack into the Pasayten Wilderness of North Central Washington. They were there to install 2 remote cameras targeting 1st level species – the grizzly bear. The team base-camped that night near an alpine lake, and next morning, July 19, day hiked another 2 miles deeper into the wilderness ... where they scouted the area for suitable locations – spotting a black sow with cub in the process – and successfully installed 2 cameras in two distinctly different bear habitats. The final day was a long and arduous hike out, but beautiful to say the least. The scenery was breathtaking … the weather spectacular ... the wildflowers especially profuse. Their trip was both fun and rewarding. Click photos to enlarge. (hosted by Crest Pictures) |
